Study Tips
Many students are sometimes unsure about what to focus on for this course. Here are some tips that may help you as you prepare and study for this class.
Focus on understanding the physics. A lot of people get caught up with the biology details (e.g. information about whales, bees, muscle function) of this course. Most of it is just included for interest and won't be tested.
In preparation for term tests and exams, the best advice I can give you is to:
1. Make sure you understand the class examples
2. Go through the problem solving questions for each section that is covered in class. This includes the questions that show up in the middle of each chapter, not just the ones at the end of the chapter.
3. Go over past quizzes and clicker questions. These can serve as extra practice questions as you're preparing for your evaluations.
4. Perhaps the most important thing: make sure to do practice tests and exams. Familiarize yourself with how Professor Zinke phrases certain things, especially in his multiple choice questions. Make sure you understand how to solve all the problems. Don't just memorize the answers to the questions. Make an appointment to see Professor Zinke if you're having difficulty with the concepts.
During exams...
Do not panic if you do not know how to solve a problem. Although Professor Zinke's final exams can be very challenging, focus on the concepts you have learned in class and think about how it can apply to the question you are being asked. Show your thinking and your work.
